I guess you have to assume that the photo this piece is written about was just one fleeting instant that happened to be captured on film, and that photography can not actually encapsulate feeling, and that the medium in itself is, in a very real sense, all smoke and mirrors.
But goddamit are these hipsters hateable.

"Why Is San Francisco So Liberal?" by Brian Palmer - Slate.com
I got nothing against San Fran. People seem like they mean well even if they're a little smug and annoying, and they have good food and beer. Vernon Davis is a grade A asshole, and it's not a warm city. That's it. That's pretty much my whole take on the Bay Area (not including Oakland which is up there with India and China on the list of places I don't have any interest in visiting). I like Anchor Steam and I don't like weirdo passive-aggressive hipsters or overly emotional tight ends. Read on.

"The Refreshing Seriousness of Tim Tebow" by Kevin Craft - TheAtlantic.com
Yes! This is more or less exactly why I've been rooting for Tim Tebow lately. He's just so refreshing. So real. So earnest. Not even joking. See that? My soft, non-God-fearing ass can't even express my own earnest sentiments on the man without coming off sarcastic.
I love Tim Tebow just running around being as earnest as fuck. Just being exactly how the people who knew him when he was 16 thought he'd be. A Christ-loving, willful, winner with unexpectedly cherubic cheeks for a dude with what looks like less than 6% body fat.
And if earnesty is the new irony, I'm surprised these goddam hipsters out there haven't adopted him as their new mascot. Bunch of scrawny, stinky art majors running around with Tebow jerseys on. Which they would of course be doing somewhat ironically--because if you're a super sweet artist running around Williamsburg with an NFL replica jersey with another man's name on the back, make no mistake, you are being ironic as a motherfucker. Which maybe comes full circle to earnest at some point? Fuck that dude, "born to be ironic" is no way to go through life. Stand for something or fall for anything. That's the truth. God (that I don't believe in) bless Tim Tebow. And I mean that earnestly.

"Warren Buffet, American" by Tom Junod - Esquire.com
Look I don't claim to be no financial expert. You lock me in a room with a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and only one of us is coming out alive. But this story about Buffet really struck a cord with me and just seems to make a lot of sense. The author theorizes that men like Buffet are truly the champions of capitalism and that these OWS hipsters wouldn't have call to be so mad if the rich made their money more like he did. You know, invest in actual products and companies instead of glorified get-rich-quick Ponzi schemes. I'm sure that's simplified as hell, but at times like these, something simple seems about right, does it not?

"I Don't Want to Bro Up, I'm an Entourage Kid" by Carles - Grantland.com
First off, is this the best title ever posted on Poop Reads? I think it might be. Carles from Hipster Runoff writes a pretty funny, pretty insightful article on Entourage and the state of the American Bro. Do bros need to grow up at some point? Can you be a bro and also be a man in full? Does it matter?
Honestly some of the biggest bros I know are some of the most successful people I know too. Like sometimes I think the harder you bro out in life the better you do. Because being a bro is about being loyal, being funny, and rolling with the punches. Those are first-line bro traits. If you don't have those three you can throw all the ancillary bro traits right out the window, because you ain't no bro, brah. And it just so happens that being loyal, funny, and easy going can get you pretty damn far in this world.
p.s. This little bro who just sang the anthem at the Eagles-Steelers game has got to be kidding me. I can sing better than that.

"Tyler the Creator: Visionary Rapper or Obnoxious Teenager" by Nitsuh Abebe - NYMag.com
Finally, someone sheds a little light on Tyler the Creator, the skater-punk, cartoonishly violent, mack-truck-voiced, charismatic leader of LA rap group/everything else Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. If you haven't heard this kid spit yet go to youtube and search for his song "Yonkers." The rapping is as good as any new rapper out there, sick flow, haunting voice, and lyrics reminiscent of a young Eminem. Oh, and the video will uh, stick with you.
Take a good long look at this kid, he's the future of hip hop.

"Goodbye, LCD Soundsystem: James Murphy's Art of Hopeless Commitment" by Nitsuh Abebe - Nymag.com
Sadly, LCD Soundsystem is about to call it a day. This tribute to lead singer James Murphy from New York Magazine is a fitting elegy to one of the most influential NYC bands of the past decade. Don't worry James, you never lost your edge.
P.S. Cribbed this one from the singer himself. It's called a James Murphy: Pour a shot of whiskey in a champagne flute, fill the rest with champagne. The champagne gets you drunk, and the whiskey keeps you that way.
