"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

The best baseball moments recorded on film in pop culture. Pretty cool stuff. No crying in baseball, Field of Dreams, etc.

What I'm more interested in talking about in re: great baseball moments is, did you know that Kirk Gibson was basically the fastest white dude of all time? Look it up, that same mustachio'd Kirk Gibson who hobbled around the bases in the '88 World Series after jacking that home run. Apparently he played flanker at Michigna State and when he came out he was supposed to be the next Mickey Mantle. Like the greatest raw, white talent anybody had ever seen. Reports coming in that he ran a 4.1 forty. Shit is incredible to me, though I've mentioned this to about 30 different people today and I think maybe one person cared and he works with me so he may have just been being professionally diplomatic. Whatever, shit is bananas.

"YouTube HOF: Terrible Musical Performances on TV" - Grantland.com

You know by now I like this series a lot. Mostly because every single time I post I write something along the lines "I love this series." But this one in particular is good. The smokepop singing "Fuck You Right Back" is probably my favorite (great, succinct write-up) and then the Britney performance is of course unreal. She was not ready for that. Still a little overweight, high as shit on something prescribed, coordination of a boxer past his prime. Still though, I would. Happily. So would you. Don't lie.

"YouTube Hall of Fame: Favorite Embarrassing Songs" - Grantland.com

This is fantastic. Grantland hasn't done one of these in a while, but here their editors pick their favorite embarrassing music videos and write about them. Now I don't really believe that these guys watch these videos once a day like some of them claim--complete fucking bullshit. But! They still did a good job with it.

It's actually a pretty hard subject. I've done some thinking on it and I really don't know what mine is. I mean I watch a lot of Pop Warner hard hits videos on YouTube, and I think my woman is embarrassed about that, but I'm sure as shit not. Some of those little motherfuckers can really lay the wood. Plus like, some 12 year olds are full grown men with mustaches, and others are still little kids, so the hits sometimes are just, I mean, unfair. Kids go ffllyyiinngggg. It's funny to me.

I digress. I guess if I had to pick one music video that's quote-unquote embarrassing to watch that I like, it's Ruff Ryders Anthem. It's got everything: dogs, motorcycles, snakes, fights, and lots of people who if I met in real life would probably stab me and steal my sneakers. I'm a 30 year old white dude from the burbs, the older I get, the dumber I feel listening to rap, particularly gangster rap. And DMX was about as gangster as they came. But I love it. Get's me so amped.

Phil probably thinks he should get a shout out for this but I read it before he sent it to me. Gotta get up pretty early in the morning to beat Poop Reads.

"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

Another Grantland piece? Sure why not. This is from the always watchable/readable YouTube Hall of Fame series. It's the editors' picks for the best movie trailers ever. Some of them are really oddball picks. I have no idea what my favorite movie trailer of all time is but it must have been better than some of these.

Ahhh, yes. The name of the movie was Deuces Wild. Saw that trailer in the cinema with my boy Phil and we were all "ooohhh shit that movies gonna be suh-weet!" I think we honestly went on opening weekend in 2002. Worst. Fucking. Movie. Ever. Made. Period.

Here's the trailer. I have the sinking suspicion that re-watching it now for the first time in 9 years I'm going to realize how fucking dumb I was in 2002.

Just watched. Oh good Jesus was I dumb. You too Phil. You too.

"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

YouTube Hall of Fame again. It's come to my attention that people aren't reading these? Are you nuts? This is one of the best ongoing series on the web. It's like watching some weird, personalized TV show with a really smart person who is telling you exactly what they're thinking about what's on the screen. Really, it's worth your time.

My favorite clip in this is Chris Jones' piece about the National performing "Mr. November" live. How that song was never used for a Tim Riggins scene in Friday Night Lights I'll never understand.* Huge miss there. I legitimately got chills at the 2:29 mark. That's awesome. The National are great.

*I realized after I wrote this that it was never used on a network TV show because the word "fuck" figures prominently into the chorus.

"The Youtube Hall of Fame" by Grantland staff

Listen I am barely hanging onto this shitty wi-fi connection by the skin of my shitty computer's shitty teeth. So obviously I couldn't watch any of these videos because Youtube buffered every 6 seconds like it always does and sucked. Computers suck and the internet doesn't work. Enjoy this article I'm sure it's even better if you have a computer that actually works.

"The YouTube Hall of Fame" by Grantland staff

Hey guys, I'm back. Did you miss me? Was running around the Bahamas with no internet. Couldn't post anything. Anyway, I promise to try hard to make sure I never miss a post again.

Here's the Grantland Youtube hall of fame article from a few days ago. Some of these guys are starting to mail this in right? One liners about Youtube videos? If I'm Bill Simmons I'm cracking the whip on these ingrates.

"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

These segments are now a staple of Poop Reads, and while hard to watch on the shitter, they are perfect for watching at your desk on a slow Friday afternoon. I recommend the "Dating Tips for Guys" segment. Dr. Paul could talk his way into any girls pants. Guy sarge's harder than Sergeant Slaughter and has kino for days. Hope you have a cubicle and some headphones.

p.s. If you know what "sarge-ing" and "kino" is go away.

"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

I love these articles from Grantland, where the editors get together and pick their favorite YouTube videos of the moment and write short essays about them. It's one of the most entertaining series on the web for my money. And while everyone here does well (except maybe for David Jacoby who tries to pawn off a Jamaican dance craze that Barstool blogged about like 6 months as a new thing) the girl who kills it is Katie Baker writing about the marshmallow experiment.

The marshmallow experiment is a psychological test they did with little kids I think like in the 90s where the researcher gives a kid a marshmallow and then leaves the room, with the supposition that if the kid doesn't eat the marshmallow he can have two marshmallows in ten minutes. It's basically a test of inborn self control. And they tracked these kids and basically found that the ones who could hold off ended up being way more succesful in life than the more impulsive kids who ate the marshmallow.

But watch these little kids on the video. They encompass every single personality trait in the world and it's hilarious. And Katie Baker narrates the shit out of it.

"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

Grantland brings back the YouTube Hall of Fame. I think this is a music edition sans Klosterman tossing in some video of Tolstoy from 1910.

I recommend watching the Cam'ron freestyle over Kanye West's "Dreams" beat that The Game had a hit on. Dude absolutely rips it and he is high as fuck. That being said, the writer Chris Ryan gets a little bit ahead of himself when he says Cam and Ghostface were the two best lyricists from 2001 to the middle of the decade. I'm a fan of Killah, but um, there was a fat dude from Yonkers named Jadakiss who was doing it pretty big his damn self during that time, brah. Reckanize.

"YouTube Hall of Fame" - Grantland.com

This has promise. I think this is a new thing on Grantland where the editors go through and pick out great/funny/ridiculous moments on YouTube and write about them, giving them a cultural frame of reference, or just harping on minutia in a way that's ostensibly entertaining. It's impossible to print out, but this is pretty good. I recommend giving it a shot.
